The U of M has a new training and research project that will last through the fall, 2016, with bi-monthly or quarterly meetings. Your family is eligible if you have an adult child living at home who has disabilities or will graduate from high school or exit transition in the next year or two. Come to an informational session to learn more about this project. Choose from sessions April 26, 9:30-11 am or May 8 or May 29, 6:30 - 8 pm. Guardianship Workshop

Monday April 28, 2014

Do you have questions about guardianship and conservatorship? This free workshop will help you know which is best for you, steps you need to take, responsibilities and the rights of the person under guardianship. An attorney will discuss legal processes and procedures for obtaining, ending or changing a guardianship order. The session will also include a short overview of Social Security. At age 18, any person is considered a competent adult unless a petition is filed for guardianship or limited guardianship. This Hennepin Co. introductory session provides information about the difference between guardianship and limited guardianship and conservatorship, responsibilities of the guardian and options to complete the process at no cost. What is MnCHOICES?

The MN Dept. of Human Services recently introduced MnCHOICES, a new tool for assessing the needs of people who need long-term services and supports. MnCHOICES uses a person-centered approach and will be used annually to assess people with disabiiteis who receive services. Launched last year in Ramsey and Dakota Counties, it will go statewide in 2014. Hear Nancy Jurgensen of DHS and Rosemary Geist of Dakota County give an overview. Hope for Healing: Attachment Training for Professionals and Parents

Join us for this full day of training for parents and professionals, emphasizing attachment-focused parenting to address developmental trauma and attachment difficulties. The day will include attachment and attachment theory; attachment, developmental trauma and the brain; loss and grieving; behavorial outcomes of developmental trauma, neglect and early separations; attachment-focused parenting and supporting your child in the school system. iCan Shine Bike Camp

The Down Syndrome Association of MN is hosting a bike camp for children age 8 and above who have a disability but are able to walk without using assistive devices. Participants mus be able to attend all 5 days of the camp and wear a properly fitted bike helmet and want to learn to ride a bike. Learn more at www.dsamn.org/events/icanshine.
