ST. PAUL – Arc Greater Twin Cities has honored Robert Abullarade
of Maple Grove with its “Changing Lives” Change Maker Award.
Arc’s Change Maker Awards recognize individuals or organizations for making a
difference for children and adults with intellectual and developmental
disabilities and their families. They reflect Arc’s tag line, “Changing
Attitudes. Changing Policies. Changing Lives.” The “Changing Lives” category
recognizes long-term or intensive efforts that positively affect the lives of
people with disabilities.
Abullarade has been honored for the guidance and friendship he has devoted to
Adam Hancock, a young adult with a disability, since Adam was seven years old.
Adam’s nomination listed 20 things he has learned from Robert, ranging from
“how to talk to girls” to “don’t sweat the small stuff.” Adam’s touching words
made a powerful statement about the impact Robert’s care and support has made
on his life.
Also receiving the “Changing Lives” Award are Andover Lanes of Andover and Greg
Hoyt/Bull Run Roasters of St. Louis Park.
