ST. PAUL – Arc Greater Twin Cities will present its "Changing
Lives" Change Maker Award to Andover Lanes of Andover at its Annual Meeting May
6 at General Mills' Conference Center.
Arc’s Change Maker Awards recognize individuals or organizations for making a
difference for children and adults with intellectual and developmental
disabilities and their families. They reflect Arc's tag line, "Changing
Attitudes. Changing Policies. Changing Lives." The "Changing Lives" category
recognizes long-term or intensive efforts that positively affect the lives of
people with disabilities.
Andover Lanes is being honored for its extraordinary support of an adapted
learner bowling league. The staff makes the effort to help bowlers with
disabilities feel welcome and included in many ways, such as setting up
multiple bowling ramps, chasing balls too slow to make it all the way down the
lane, cleaning snow from the wheels of wheelchairs so bowlers can get on the
lanes, and showing exceptional patience and respect. Andover Lanes treats
people with disabilities as if they are all champions.
Also receiving the "Changing Lives" Award are Robert Abullarade of Maple Grove
and Greg Hoyt/Bull Run Roasters of St. Louis Park.
