Arc and Forest Lake Public Schools Team Up to Offer GetSet! Special Education Training to Parents in March

February 2006

MINNEAPOLIS – Arc Greater Twin Cities and Forest Lake Public Schools are joining forces to offer Arc's GetSet! Training for Special Education Success to parents of school-age children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The four-part training series will be held in March at the Central Learning Center, 200 SW Fourth Street, Forest Lake.

GetSet! guides parents through the range of issues they may encounter while their child is in school. It introduces the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) and helps parents become more active and effective members of the team that develops their child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP). GetSet! also gives participants an opportunity to network with other parents of children with disabilities.

The schedule for GetSet is:

  • March 8 Session 1: Child Find and the Evaluation Process
  • March 15 Session 2: The Development of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • March 22 Session 3: The Implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Special Implementation Topics
  • March 29 Session 4: IEP Revision, Re-evaluation and Extended School Year (ESY)

GetSet! is free for Arc members and participants who join Arc when they register. The cost per person for non-members is $20 per session or $50 for the series. Arc membership is $30 per year for an individual and $40 for a household. Membership scholarships are also available. To register or get more information, call Arc at (952) 920-0855.
