Arc’s GetSet! Training for Special Education Success Comes to St. Louis Park in January

Tuesday December 4, 2006

If you have a child with an intellectual or developmental disability, you can help your child get more out of school this year – and for years to come – by participating in GetSet! Training for Special Education Success, a program from Arc Greater Twin Cities that will come to St. Louis Park in January 2007. The four-part GetSet! series will be held at Arc Greater Twin Cities, 4301 Highway 7, St. Louis Park.

GetSet! guides parents through the range of issues they may encounter while their child is in school. It introduces the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) and helps parents become more active and effective members of the team that develops their child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP). GetSet! also gives participants an opportunity to network with other parents of children with disabilities.

All four sessions of GetSet! will be on Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The schedule is:

January 4 Session 1: Child Find and the Evaluation Process
January 11 Session 2: The Development of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
January 18 Session 3: The Implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Special Implementation Topics
January 25 Session 4: IEP Review, Revision and Re-evaluation

GetSet! is free for Arc members and participants who join Arc when they register. The cost per person for non-members is $20 per session or $50 for the full series. Arc membership is $30 per year for an individual and $40 for a household. Membership scholarships are available. To register or get more information, call Arc at (952) 920-0855.
