MINNEAPOLIS – Arc Greater Twin Cities and South Washington County School-Age Family Education (SAFE) are joining forces to offer Arc’s GetSet! Training for Special Education Success to parents of school-age children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The four-part training series will be held at Woodbury United Methodist Church, 7465 Steepleview Road, Woodbury.
GetSet! guides parents through the range of issues they may encounter while their child is in school. It introduces the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) and helps parents become more active and effective members of the team that develops their child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP). GetSet! also gives participants an opportunity to network with other parents of children with disabilities.
The GetSet! schedule is:
| January 16 | Session 1: Child Find and the Evaluation Process |
| January 23 | Session 2: The Development of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) |
| January 30 | Session 3: The Implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Special Implementation Topics |
| February 6 | Session 4: IEP Review, Revision and Re-evaluation |
GetSet! is free for Arc members and participants who join Arc when they register. The cost per person for non-members is $20 for each session or $50 for the series. Arc membership is $30 per year for an individual and $40 for a household. Membership scholarships are available. To register or get more information, call Arc at (952) 920-0855.
