Thursday November 9, 2006

MINNEAPOLIS – Arc Greater Twin Cities is launching new program initiatives for metro area African, Hmong and Latino families who have a member with an intellectual or developmental disability, and those initiatives will kick off with two Winter Cultural Festivals in December.

The first festival will be held Friday, December 1, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Shakopee Junior High School, 1137 Marschall Road S., Shakopee. The second will be on Thursday, December 7, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center for Community Building, 179 Robie St. E., St. Paul.

Family members of all ages are invited to come to the festivals and learn more about Arc's programs and services, including new offerings designed specifically for people from the African, Hmong and Latino communities. These new programs include family networking groups, educational forums and family fun events. The Winter Cultural Festivals are also an opportunity to meet other families and enjoy ethnic foods and entertainment from African, Asian and Latino traditions.

The Winter Cultural Festivals are free, but participants should call Arc at (952) 920-0855 to specify which event they will attend.
